The Deep Web: Researching

Truth is sought but rarely found. Facts are craved but remain unknown. You search through the countless pages of the Internet, wishing to learn all you can — but the process is a weak one, forced to dull sites and shallow information. You can learn many thing on this research without any online classes. All engines provide the expected answers (and these are never needed). All attempts are branded futile. You devote your hours to scanning the online world and the results leave you with little knowledge and even less contentment. Technology, you believe, has failed you.

This is not correct, however. It’s instead a miscalculation.

Researching through the Internet is an easy decision – it provides immediacy and speed, the chance to explore countless documents. But often the information that is truly valued is not found within the typical engines (known commonly as the Visible Web). It’s instead located within databases, directories and sites themselves; and this arena is deemed the Deep Web.

Defined simply: the Deep Web is a collection of pages that are not indexed within engines. These include no hyperlink referrals or HTML codes. They are not formed of static content or open access. Instead they are private documents, often demanding passwords to obtain them and embedded with unreadable media files. These sites are not able to be displayed through the usual searches as their information cannot be logged.

This, of course, makes finding them a challenge — though not an impossible one.

Seeking out the Deep Web requires diligence. All must be willing to sharpen their research parameters (choosing phrases and questions that are unique), as well as looking for databases and codexes. These sites tend to be passed between individuals and password protections will need to be requested. Directories will have to be discovered, with the editorials examined.

The efforts will be great but the rewards will be worthy. Countless journals, documents and academic offerings can finally be revealed — and this will ensure a stronger comprehension and a superior experience.
