Blender: Creating 3D Graphics for Free

There was a time, not so long ago, when anyone who wanted to create three dimensional images would have to shell out for a very expensive program such as AutoCAD, or design the entire program themselves from scratch. Not only was this beyond the reach of most people (since these types of programs are complicated to build and AutoCAD is very expensive), but as a result it placed a limiting factor on the amount of creative work which could be produced. Fortunately for those of us who are not programmers but who long to create beautiful 3D images, our prayers were answered in the form of Blender.

Now, Blender might sound like nothing more than a household appliance — perhaps you have one in the kitchen of your own home. However, they could not be further apart from one another. The program known as Blender, while allowing the burgeoning designers of the world to create 3D works, will not help you to make a smoothie. However, the 3D thing is more than enough awesomeness for most people. In fact, there are even developer forums for Blender, where the programmers who like to work on this open source juggernaut get together and talk to one another about how they can make it even better.

The best thing about Blender is a topic which could be discussed at length. On the one hand, it is great that the program is free. It also definitely bears mentioning that Blender is open source, which means that any programmer in the world who would like to pitch in and lend their talents to its further development is free to do so. Nobody knows where the next great feature is going to come from, and that is incredibly exciting to think about. At any time, someone on the other side of the world might be crafting the next great feature, which will allow even better 3D creations.
